The Journal Prompt for Today To Feel Less Rushed and Enjoy the Journey
Why is the journal prompt for today about feeling less rushed?
Because, that was one of my challenges I journaled about this week. Here, as mentioned in Journal Prompts, I share examples of what I journal about and questions I ask myself while journaling.
This week, I tried out new things again in my career. That made me feel a bit impatient and frustrated. It made me think about how much I don’t know and how much there is still to learn.
Later that day, I vented to someone about it and they asked me why I was in such a rush.
It was a good WAKE UP CALL again for me and it’s so true. I have experienced this trap so many times, but I still forget it from time to time…
I started to ask myself that question again:
“Why am I in a rush?”
Maybe, I am afraid my opportunity will be gone? Maybe, I fear this is my only chance?
I wasn’t sure about it, so what do you think I did?
Of course, I journaled about it.
After journaling about it, I came to a different conclusion ->
Maybe, I am afraid that I am actually not able to do it?
If I really believed that I was able to do those new things and achieve those new goals, would I be in a rush? Because, doing my best and making EFFECTIVE, fast steps towards my exciting goals doesn’t mean I need to feel rushed and neither do you.
Sometimes, that feeling can make it even harder for you to achieve your desired goals. Because rushing is short term and for most big, life goals you need a long term strategy to get there.
And you do want to achieve your life goals, right? Will you be able to keep going long term, if you feel rushed and stressed all the time? Isn’t it better to just take effective steps and improve your commitment?
(Writing this reminds me of something relatable that someone once told me. She told me that she isn’t so fast at doing things. Whenever her family rushes her, she somehow becomes even slower even though it isn’t on purpose. That often happens to me too and I already have the nickname slowpoke.)
My journal prompt for today
The other thing they asked and reminded me of was:
“ If I am doing what I want to do, why not ENJOY the journey more?”
That was so true too. Oh my god, how do I keep forgetting these simple things?
It also reminded me of the video games I played in the past. Sometimes, I really try my best to complete a fun game or get a certain multiplayer rank.
But, do you know what often happened after I finally made it?
After reaching my goal, I enjoyed the side quests or the rank for a short period. But then I quit the game, because there wasn’t that much more to do and it lost its excitement…
Even though getting there was frustrating at times, it was playing the game that was FUN and exciting.
So, why not enjoy your journey? Why not enjoy the ride? This is it. You don’t really get a second chance to enjoy this unique moment.
With that in mind, here is my journal prompt for today:
“What can I change right now to enjoy the journey more?”
“How can this help me with being patient? Why am I in such a rush anyway? Is life about the journey or the destination? Would I be in a rush if I truly believed I was going to get there anyway? What would I do differently, if I were able to re-experience my favorite games or memories again as if it was the first time?’’
If you have dreams you want to achieve…
CREATE YOUR OWN LUCK!
P.S. You don’t need to rush journaling either. Take your time and if you don’t have as much time on certain days, you can always journal a bit simpler that day. It’s better to stay consistent as explained in How To Journal.
